Blind Sight Vision Case

IP Laboratory “Empathy and Inclusion”

Tactile touching-tactile vision

Masha, whose visual cortex is damaged from birth does not even see light. Due the tactile touching she can actually reproduce, imagine (blindsight effect) what she really feels. Thanks to such kind of the tactile vision Masha can perceive the contours and dimensions of objects in 3D space, to perceive distances and depths, to distinguish colors and the structure of objects. It becomes possible because we activate her constructive imagination, efferent perception via visual motion perception pathway (MT/V5) in the actual 3D space. In the case of a blindness, this becomes vitally important!

for example, Masha, whose visual cortex is damaged from birth and she does not even see light. Through a tactile touching she begins to see what she feels. Through tactile vision Masha begins to see the contours and dimensions of objects in 3D space, to see distances and depths, to distinguish colors and the structure of objects. This means that we activate her constructive imagination in the actual space she and her trainer are presenting in.
